Default How to rebuild fuel pump assembly

Does anyone have a write up on how to rebuild a fuel pump assembly? I do not want to buy a cheap AirTex. I do not want to over spend on an assymbly when I can just replace the pump its self. Are any special tools involved? I am of the understanding there are not.

I've seen some write ups on somebody who modified a stock one with a different pump type, hoses, and welded tubing...other than that I have not heard of a rebuilt kit for our pumps...doesn't seem like a large enough marked for a company to sell rebuild kits.

Yhey are all over e-bay from $24 to $35 for the most complete kits. I know those things gotta open. It's just a question of how and how to without breaking the plastic

The right way would be to change the whole assembly. You're risking cross filling only changing the pump, which is a pain because it's not really designed to come apart.

Sean have you ever taken one apart? I am not askinf as a smart aleck retort just curious. I don't really have the $$ right now for the whole assembly plus have to but the sending unit nut and seal seperate to boot.

just buy the fuel pump module...thats the pump that bolts/fits to the sender unit....

the "whole" assembly is the fuel pump Module AND the sender unit...the whole thing you pull out of the tank, all in one..

FYI... I ordered the Whole Assembly from Rock Auto and I would NOT do it again. I ordered an assembly for a 95 2-line front tank and it was exact....all except the plugin part. it dont match mine at all. Whats worse is they include another in the bag to splice in for different years and it wasnt the same either...

Mine is the larger Round-4-pin...The Assembly I got had the small round 4-pin and the spare splice connector was a square 4-pin

Here's what it should look like. This particular one is for the front tank.

Well I successfully opened the fuel pump assembly without breaking it. I have removed a lot ov varnish and almost have it ready for the rebuild kit that comes in Tue. I just gotta figure out now how to boil a tank.

Even under these conditions it put out about 30-32 PSI of pressure.
