Default 6 cyl vs small 8

Trying to decide on a truck and have two to choose from. One a 6 cylinder 5 speed and the other a small 4.6 8 cylinder 5 speed.Read online they both get 15 to 20.Would I really get as good of gas mileage with the 8?
Thanks

The 8 does get better mileage.

think about it this way, the v8 is bigger, but it will move the truck with less effort. The v6 "should" get better MPG's, but it has to work much harder to move the larger truck then the v8

I have the 4.6 in my truck, and it has plenty of power, and I would never get the v6, because it would limit the abilities of my truck when it comes to hauling or towing. That is not something that I would sacrifice for the possible 1 to 2 mpg that I could save with the v6.

Could save are the key words in that sentence.

Default 6 cylinder vs small 8 cylinder

I am spoiled on my old 94 straight 6.I get 17 with a full load and don't want to go down much from this.Plus resale is a problem with the price of gas the way it is people automatically think 6 is easier on gas.I'm just going by KBB specs that state same mileage for both the 4.2 6 cylinder 5 speed and the 4.6 8 cylinder 5 speed.

there is quite a bit of difference between the 4.2 and the straight six.

I know the straight six has more torque. I don't know about the HP.
