Default AC Compressor Clutch replacement

Hi,

The CA on my 2007 F150 XLT stopped working today (21,000 miles!)

It has gas and when I looked closer I see that the the clutch engages and the outer hub turns, but the clutch seems to slip so bad the compressor will not turn. I can turn the compressor shaft with my fingers. To be sure I ran a jumper wire to the clucth coil and I get the same thing. It draws just under 4 amps "engaged".

Anyway has anyone ever replaced a cltcu on the truck? Are there are special tools needed?

Is it common for these things to slip?

I really appreciate the help and thanks in advance.

Howard

Thanks - that helped alot.

When I goggled the tools I found a good diagram.

I was able to get my Makita impact driver in there and pull out the center bolt then remove the disc/hub assembly. It looks like a little harmonic balancer. On mine the rubber joint is torn up and melted so the center hub just spun. That was the smell I smelt...

I guess I'll try replacing the hub and see what the compressor sounds like before I pull it.

Anyone else been down this road?

For another $100 you can probably buy a new compressor. Is it worth messing with?
