Default 06 Triton 5.4 ticking noise

Hi guys,

I have been reading about the ticking noise being common on the three valve engines and likely caused by the cam phasers. I am having that annoying noise on the 06 that i just bought with triton 5.4 @ 70,000 kilometers and i'm unclear whether this is something that needs to be looked into right away to prevent further damage or should i just start trying to ignore the noise?
It is annoying but i really don't want to start spending if i can get away without it.
Also does anyone know weather using some of that additive to quiet noisey valves may help, although from what i read it caused by the phasers taking the cams off by 20 to 60 degrees to help with fuel consumption & power at the top end?????

thanks
wondering

The Cam Phaser TSB only applies to 04-05

A seperate TSB 06-9-11 applies to 06s concerning lash adjusters. Another cause is aftermarket oil filter degradation.

That said, our engines are noisy period.

Not sure about any additives helping.

The injectors can also be a source of noise.

Thanks for answering guys. I guess i'll have to gget used to the noise, i've been hearing a lot about it. A friend bought a 2010 the first one thathe tried had the noise, he took it back and after a lot of arguing they gave him another , same model, that is quiet. they told him the noise is normal to.

Hey Wondering...it's been almost a year since you posted your question. My 2006 FX4 with the 5.4 has the same noise, but my truck is not a daily driver so I have not done anything to rectify the noise, I assume that your truck is a daily driver. Since your post, have you done anything about it, and if not is your engine still operating ok? I really appreciate your response as I'm worried about my engine, and I tow a 7400 lb 5th wheel with my truck.

Thanks man!

Idk what the difference of an 06 5.4 and an 04 5.4 is but I have that cam phaser noise with 142,000 miles on the clock. Iv pulled little and big trailers/ loads, hot or cold weather, rain snow or shine, up hill down hill across the hill through the field. It stills runs the same sounds the same as the day I obtained it. I use valvoline 5w-30 full synthetic with a Lucas oil stabilizer in it.

2005 5.4 triton-"light" ticking noise coming from the passenger side. Almost like an exhaust leak. Ended up being two loose spark plugs. FYI, my valve cover had staining around the entrance for the plug and boot.

Lets all just try to not dig up old threads... This one has been buried for awhile. It has also been covered numerous times throughout the years.

tick tick tick --> Injectors, normal
knock knock knock (diesel sounding) --> cam phasers/VCT solenoids. most people just keep driving. turn the music up and get some exhaust/aftermarket stereo

You forgot the infamous exhaust manifold leak tick, it's the loudest tick....
