Question 07 F150 4.6 won't turn over

After shutting down while driving, truck will not turnover. Just get a solid clank when turn ignition. All electronics seem to work(radio, etc.) tried jumping battery but no luck, on shut down display read 'check guages' . All fluids appear normal. Have no clue where to start. Please Help with a starting point.

First off, will the engine turn over using a wrench on the crank pulley? If not, its not good. Then you need to remove spark plugs and try again looking for coolant to be pushed out of plug holes. If still not turning its time to pull the engine and take off the pan for examination. Wait a minute, its a overhead cam engine with zero clearance between valves and pistons, if out of time it won't turn over. Thats not good either. My friend, I wish you luck.

Question

I tried but couldn't get my hands and arms in. What about putting it in drive (D) and pushing it, will that turn the motor cause I was able to do that. Also would the engine make some kind of noise or warning if it locked up during operation?

How many miles are on it and how regular do you change oil and do regular maintnence? If you have all your interior lights on when you are trying to crank it then the battery is fine. Try smackin the starter with a hammer or whatever you can swing in there. Its possible that the starter is locked up but turning it over by hand is the best way to figure out how much trouble you are in.

Have you checked your starter? Sounds like it got jammed on a tooth on the flywheel. Go under the truck with a hammer and tap on the starter. Maybe it will pop the starter gear back in and from the fly wheel. This happened to me when I had a starter going bad. It made a pop noise when you turn over the ignition but wasn't strong enough to turn over the motor. Should be easy to find the problem.

If its an automatic, no the engine will not turn over that way, thats why we can't push start an automatic. If its manual, yes then the engine should turn over unless its locked, the wheels will skid.
