Elusive coolant leak from hell.
So I'm losing about a cup or two of coolant a week. The radiator stays full to the top, but the overflow tank is down about a cup or two every week. I've just been filling it with distilled water because it never freezes where I live anyway, but I gotta figure out where the coolant is leaking from so I can fix it and refill with the proper mixture. I can see that it is dripping off of the oil pan and oil filter, but I can't figure out where the leak originates from even after wiping everything down and waiting for the leak to reappear. Is there a common coolant leak point on these trucks? (95 5.0 5spd.)

Coolant leaking by the thermostat housing gasket. Loose hose clamp. A weep hole at the bottom of the Waterpump bearing race that leaks coolant prior to &/or during catastrophic failure. The attributes of running a distilled water mix (I run 60% dist./40%anti)as opposed to tap, are the best kept secrets of the Radiator Repair/Replacement industry. Not just for the sake of the hardware, but the health & performance of the engine as well.

Maybe it's like those Marble Statues they occasional find crying in Churches every so often. You might have a bonified miracle on yer hands!.........Or not. Anyway, if the Gatoraide Green drops turn red, that's "exactly" the reason your not supposed to go poking around the engine compartment w/ the motor running!

They're really not that big of a deal. It's not like you have to pull the engine. You are running some antifreeze, right? You do need some, for it's anti-corrosive & lubricant properties.

Only if there's still some in there from before the leak started. It's pretty much all distilled water at this point.

You want to run 40% anti/ 60% Distilled. To help lube the waterpump & prevent corrosion (including the Freeze Plug portals). I had to do the F/P's in my E-150 at least 10 ten years ago. The only thing I really remember was it was uneventful & didn't take very long!
