I've said it both here and on the tundra forums, the EB tows better than any other half ton out there. Partially due to the transmission logic, but also due to the 420 torque @ 2500 rpms. Full Torque at lower rpms is the key, there is a reason diesels do this samething. You can't compare the EB to the power of diesels, but you can compare it's power curve and how quickly the EB generates the power.

Horsepower determines how fast you hit the wall..........torque determines how far you can move it afterwards.

I get a kick out of those here saying that if the 6.2 could be manually held near redline (!!) it would pull that hill no problem......who here wants to listen to that V8 at 6,000 rpm for MILES.....makes my teeth hurt just thinking about it.
This is one of the reasons that I moved from my 5.4 to the EB to tow our TT. I'd MUCH rather listen to the EB at 2,900 rpm doing the same work pulling a hill that the 5.4 was doing at (an unhappy) 4,000...........much less listening to that 6.2 at nearly 6,000 (!!).

Tell me about it. When your choice is hearing a Chevy doing 64.6 mph at 6,000 rpm in 2nd gear going up a mountain or an EB going 65 mph at........

in 3rd gear, I think I will stick with what I got.

As you can see these transmissions are nearly identical which put each truck nearly identical with everything besides their engine. This was an all motor show and the 6.2L lost going up the hill no if's, and's, or but's about it. However it did do a lot better job then the EB going down the hill.
The shift logic of the two is also obviously different. It would be interesting to see how the 6.2 would do with different gearing such as 3.73 like the F150. As far as engine braking goes, I agree that the EB doesn't have much in the way of engine braking but with things like that, every bit counts and the fact that they presumably didn't use tow/haul on the way down flaws that test again.

They mentioned the difference, I believe it was 53.5" before the trailer and 51 inches after hooking up the trailer with only ~900 pounds of hitch weight. Pretty sad for a half ton.

I don't mind the sound of my 5.4 towing but I will agree, being quieter while towing is probably very nice.

The Chevy 6.2L in the test had 3.73 rear axle like the F150.

Whoops, thought it had the 3.42 for some reason. In that case, it really was an engine vs engine test.
