Default 2002 F150 Compas and thermometer

Hello, my 2002 F150 overhead compas and outside thermometer display recently went out. Before going completely out, it came on once in a while. I haven't found any burnt fuses. The only other electrical anomoly is that the OD light on the shift *** comes on ocassionally and the OD is not disabled. Thanks.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread. But I have a question pertaining to the subject.

I have a 2010 f150 xl. It looks like there is a digital read out nested in the right hand corner of the radio display.

Is that what I see?
Can it be made functional?
How?

Default compass display

My compass display recently went out. I to checked for fuses but found none. I began tearing the console off. Then taking it apart. I was able to pull out the circuit board for the compass and therm. It was pretty simple. I found a loose chip on the circuit board and i was able to solder it back on. Then plugged it back in to check and it worked. I put it all back together and resolved the problem.

I bought my truck with the compass/temp display already on the blink. I took it out and it looks to be fried in the lower right corner of the glass/led/display. Anyone know how/where another can be found?

I also found a lot of metal shavings, I assume, from the factory. I can't help but wonder if some of the shavings could have caused a short to occur while with the previous owner.

That "brown/gray" burn mark on the display is normal, my 02 has the same mark. On mine the compass went out and it was a loose chip that needed to be re-soldered. You have to look closely at the chips and nudge them very slightly to find the loose one. Theres another post here somewhere with pics describing the whole fix. I made a DIY guide for this a few weeks ago. Here's the link

If you click on "How to Submissions" it will be there, also.
