First oil change 2013 Ecoboost
I have 3500 km on my 2013 ecoboost
When is everyone doing there first oil change? Is it true the factory oil is a break in oil and should be left in longer?
Still contemplating on going to synthetic when I do my first one.

As per Ford: Treat it as any other oil change, i.e. OLM or one year whichever comes first.
As per most prevalent Old Wive's Tale: Change it right now to get the iron filings out of the engine which will destroy your car.
As per second most prevalent Old Wive's Tale: Ford left in important lubricants from the build process which are helpful to break-in. Leave that one in as long as the warranty allows.
What I did: Waffled. Drove it until 500 miles past break-in (4,500 city miles by my butt dyno). Then changed.
The "break in oil" OWT although it is less popular has some stuff going for it. It does correspond to the Ford manual, after all. Honda who makes the most durable gasoline engines on the planet explicitly incorporates this OWT in its manual. How much difference could there be in manufacturing process from one company to another? But then again, I personally waffled.

I changed mine at the 4000 mark and I went down to Walmart and bought motor craft synthetic blend and a motor craft filter and now I changed every 5000 miles

Honda has experienced oil consumption issues in new engines, as modern oils are so good. That in combination with folks who "know better", doing early oil changes, results in inadequate break-in. Something to think about.
To say it won't make a difference is disingenuous, changing it too early could do more harm than good, as we all know the engine will be absolutely fine if you treat it like any other oil change. If you are gentle on the truck, it may not break in correctly with a too early oil change.
That and there is about 70000000 other threads on the net about this.

Follow the recommended schedule in your manual or whatever you feel comfortable with, its your truck.

Manufacturers haven't used ****('Break-in') oil for decades.
With modern computers they're able to engineer-in way better tolerances, thus a lot of manufacturers are even starting off with synthetics now days.
My wife's BMW(s) since at least 2008 haven't called for the first oil change until 13,000 miles +/-. Mind you BMW also includes 'free' service for the first 50,000 miles with every vehicle purchase/lease, so they undoubtedly call for longer intervals than they would if they weren't paying for the services on 'em.
