tailgate step handle removal?

tailgate step handle removal?

I've heard people mention removing the handle on their tailgate step. Anyone have any info on this?

So things will lay flat on the tailgate and/or to spray it with a bed liner to match the rest of the bed.

I took mine off and got the flat panel before doing Line-x...you can actually sit on the tailgate now....best thing I did...and it can always be put back on.
