I'll be waiting patiently for your ipad mini mock up, I'm more interested on leaving the hazard/airbag buttons where they are so the mini will be perfect.

Since those minis are so small, i think everything will fit in place with everything in the truck staying stock. Im pretty optimistic about how easy the build will be.. i am using a fakey display for the mock up, but at least you'll see how it looks!

The iPad mini, like TKO said, is going to be an awesome option. I don't even think the stereo box will need to be flipped down. Even if it does need to be, it's reversible and easy to do. Otherwise, no tabs will need to be cut off and the hazard buttons will be able to stay in the same place.

I'm still waiting on the dash kits to get here (damn Amazon express shipping my ***) and the fake iPad Mini should be here soon. Otherwise It shouldn't be more than a Saturday's project. Biggest job will be finding a way to fasten a backing plate to hold it in place.

I've been thinking about this for a while now, I think my iPad mini concept is going to be a float mount exclusively for the first round of proof of concept-ing. The opening in the metra kit is too large for a stealthmount, and the stealth mount seems less practical with a tablet that size. I'll be doing some fiberglassing with a fake iPad mini this week and post up the results. I'm excited about this project. I may not run it exclusively in my truck but I think some people would be interested in it.

Well gents, our suspicion seems to be correct. as u can see below, the ipad mini sits nicley in between the mounts for the hazard lighting switch and the ac controls.. so no tabs or notched or anything need to be made. looks as tho no mods need to be made to the truck except for pushing the stock radio back an inch if possible.

The problem is that the screen on this thing is way too small :/ the opening would either have to be made smaller to just show the screen, or larger to that the front camera and menu button could be reached easily!

Did you get a white one? Black one would've been better IMO. Personally, I'd like to be able to use the home button and camera.

Your thoughts??

This ones a fakey. i dont really care for the minis, but i bought one to see if i can get someone to order a dash kit! haha but yeah i was thinking the same though it would be easier to build with the ipad pressed up against the dash kit like i have it in the picture, i think it would look better if it is mounted back 1/4"-1/2" snd then filled in with plastic to give it a more factory feel like my full size ipad.. if that makes sense

Where'd you get the fake one from TKO? All the ones I've seen don't look anything like the real thing.

I really want to do a float mount but I really don't want to buy a real iPad mini right now lol. I have no use for any iPad outside of my truck but something like a float mount would be nice.
