wheel offset?

wheel offset?
What does this mean? Do I need a certain offset for my truck? Wife is standing over me telling me get get my wheels and tires and this offset is making me slow down since I don't want to get something that wont fit.

Wheels come in different diameters and widths. OFF-SET basically means, the distance from its hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel. Along with the wheel width, this will determine how far the outer portion of a wheel and tire sticks out.
You've seen wheels and tires that are even or flush with the edge of the fender well. That's acheived not only with a wider tire and or wheel, it's also done by selectively choosing a wheel that has the correct OFF-SET from the mounting point.
The best way to see what OFF-SET is and how it works is, go to a local wheel and tire shop that sells custom wheels and ask them to show you how OFF-SET works.

I have the same question. I am looking at the Moto Metal 951's in a 20 inch rim and it offers offsets in +18 and +30 mm. I plan on running the Nitto Terra Grappler 305/55/20. Will I run into any issues with just a 2inch leveling kit from Auto Spring?

im pretty sure those r the same exact rims im getting (idk them by model # i just know them by motometal and the look) with the same exact tires...i believe we have to go with the +18mm offset...i think the +33 makes them stick out a lot...they will fit wit the 2.5" leveling kit, cuz i have it, and have tried them on, BUT once they r on, u will have to shave a portion of the front lower valance so that they dont rub when you turn...

To me it's alot easier to understand backspacing then it is to understand offset. The stock wheels have around 5.5" of backspace and are 7.5" wide. If you were to get a wheel that has the same backspacing and is 18x9 then you'll have 1.5" sticking out. You'd need to get a wheel with more backspacing in order for your tire not to stick out so far if you went as I as mentioned. Does that help?

I'm not 100% sure but I think a stock F150 wheel has a .55118" off-set and a Harley Davidson wheel has a 1.1810" off-set.
Keep in mind that the Harley wheel has a larger diameter and is a wider wheel.
If you measure the width of a wheel and mark a spot in the center of that wheel and then measure the distance from the center of that wheel to the mounting surface where it contacts the hub, that measurement is the off-set.
