PLEASE READ! NEED INFO QUICK! VCT Solenoid REplacement
OK Guys, Im changing out my vcts this morning. Ive ran into a problem. The new VCT bolts are a 27 torque head... These did come from FORD but they are a new design. Does anyone know what size torque head I need for the original? Its a 2004 F150 4x4 5.4. I really need a quick response if possible! Thank you!

WOW! I am soooooo impressed. I just got done replacing both VCTs in my 2004 F150 5.4 and oh my... What a difference! I ran it by a few places that had heard the before and when I pulled up they didnt even realize my truck was running. I am so thankful that this has solved yet another once of my ticking issues. There is a slight tick still there, but it is NOWHERE near what it did sound like. This job took me a total of about 30 minutes. I didn't even have to remove the whole power steering bracket, just the reservoir and the side bracket. So far in the last two weeks I have done the following. New timing chain, giudes, tensionors, ect. Changed front diff, rear diff, transfer case, transmission filter and fluids. I also purged the power steering pump (did a no -no and used power steering fluid instead of Mercon) flushed it real good and refilled with Mercon V) I was loosing power steering fluid and read where the regular power steering fluid was too thin and was bypassing seals. I haven't lost a drop in the last two weeks after doing this. I also added Lucas to the transmission and power steering. I am getting around 18 mpgs highway and around 13 mpgs in the city. Before I was getting 13 mpg highway and 9-10 mpgs in the city. Everything looked very clean and intact when I removed inspection plates. went ahead and used gaskets instead of rtv just for the added security.
Now that I have all the major mechanical stuff done, Im ready to add my 2.5 in leveling kit, and im going to put BF Goodrich 285/65/18s on my factory rims. Should equal out to 33x11.50x18s. I cant wait to see the difference. Just wish my leveling kit would hurry up and get here!

Looks like you gave that seal hell trying to get it out. i went ahead and ordered new seals when I ordered my solenoids cause I figured I would destroy them trying to get them out. Wasnt that bad though. Once I got one of the tabs raised I took a small pair of channel locks, grabbed on, and pulled it straight out. I could've reused one side, but for $11.00 I went ahead and replaced both. I did both sides for less than $100.00 and 30 minutes. Total on both solenoids was 87.00 and the seals for both were 11.00. Yes they were OEM Ford Parts. Gotta love fordparts.com! Only thing is you have to call the dealerships that pop up on the site when you check for pricing and availability. The solenoids showed up for 47.03 on the site and when I called and ordered them I actually got them for 38.00 a piece. Go figure on that one. Drastic improvement as far as engine noise and idling...

solenoid # on mine was 3L3Z6M280EA, I called a dealership nearby and they said it would be around 115.00 ea., I ordered from online and they said the new number was 8L3Z6M280A, an they would be 89.77 ea. so I ordered one and when it came in the number was 8L3Z6M280B and it was 32.45 ea. so go figure, I have a 2004 F150 5.4 hope this helps
