Trailer brake Relay/fuse question
Hey guys sorry in advance if this was already posted/answered. I did try searching but could not find an answer. I bought a used 2008 f150 and intend on towing a travel trailer with it. It has the tow package on it. I found a relay that had not been installed yet and I know I have to install it for the charging of the trailer battery I believe. If Iam only towing in the summer months is it alright to leave the relay in all the time? Also I have read about a fuse that needs to be installed as well but could not find one in the bag where the relay was. I think it has something to do with the trailer brakes as well. Is that correct? What Amp and location?

The relay is all you need to install and it will be fine to leave it in all the time. You do not need to install any fuse for the trailer brakes but while youre installing the charging circuit relay you could always make sure the fuse is there. Also I assume you are installing a brake controller, brakes wont work without that.

Thankyou. Yes I have aTekonsha p2 on the way and have that already figured out. Found the connection under the steering wheel.
If the fuse is empty do I need to put one in?

I also recall reading something about an R05 fuse that needs to be added?

Do you happen to know a Ford part # for this relay? I have a used 2007 F150 that I am planning to install a P2 into the factory wiring harness plug under the steering wheel and it sounds like I need to add this relay to make it all work correctly.
I also recall reading something about an R05 fuse that needs to be added?

Sure - but can you provide any more information for what I am looking for? Pardon my ignorance, but I haven't seen one of these before and I'm not sure if this is a generic relay or something special that I need to ask for at an autopart store.
