Roush 421428 Exhaust installed on my 5.0
Just got done installing the new Roush exhaust on my 5.0. Man this thing is LOUD! Sounds great though. It is very deep, and under acceleration has no drone, but a "thrum thrum" in the cab. You get on it and it literally screams. They don't call this thing a "coyote" for nothing!
It was a pretty easy install. Kind of a pain to get the stock system out in one piece. Had to drop the spare and bend the spare tire heat-shield back just a bit to worm it out. It just bolted right up. Cutting the mid-pipe was the most time consuming part as you need to measure, measure, measure.
You will need a 13mm socket for the two bell connector bolts, 15mm deep well socket for the clamps, a 19mm socket and a 21mm end wrench to loosen the lower spring perch bolt to add the additional hanger the Roush system needs. You will also need a picky wife, or significant other, to tell you when you have the tips lined up.
Here is a quick vid at startup and idle. This does not do the sound justice. It is much deeper at idle.

Here are some install pics:

Stock resonator vs Roush muffler.
Roush midpipe is 61" long. You cut this to fit. I had to cut about 18" to make it fit. So this *should* fit a supercrew with the 6.5" foot bed all the way down to a reg cab.

I got it from Stage 3 motorsports. Took a long time to get it. I ordered it about six weeks ago, back before Roush released it. AFAIK, they shipped 10 kits this time and I got one of them. My kit was dropped shipped directly from Roush. Shipped on Thursday, got it today.

It does have a odd fluttering or thrumming sound when you are lugging the engine...almost gets raspy...but deeper. Sounds mean as hell outside, especially on take off. You get it into the upper RPM band of 4500 + and it is just plain insane loud. I mean....cop attracting loud. It is a mix of raspy, deep, crackly, and everything in between. Just plain mean.
This is not the exhaust for someone that wants a quiet setup....not at all. However, I can say if you are easy, you can sneak into the neighborhood and not wake everyone up (my wife did it tonight). If you keep the revs below 2000 you aren't much louder than any other aftermarket system.
The other thing I noticed is that this system is a true 3" all the way through. The OEM resonator gets choked down to 2.75 or 2.5 at one point. In fact, I could slip the mid-pipe from the Roush system over the outside of the OEM resonator pipe.

Nice write-up bskouby! Great pics, as well ... been looking for something like this. And the kit is very friendly in that the muffler can easily be changed out if you want to chnage the sound with another muffler, or even add a true 3" resonator inline with the Roush muffler.
This is my next mod, so, thanks for taking the time to post this.

Thanks for the great write up. Just think I found the exhaust to put on my truck. Also do you have any video of it on the road?
