How often do you change your spark plugs/wires?
We just bought our F150 xlt 4.6L 2wd. Its has 185,000 miles on it. We bought it from a very good friend of mine. Im wondering how often you guys change your spark plugs? He said that the plugs have around 20,000 miles on them (he said the were the double platinums but I dont know if they are the motorcraft ones, but knowing him they probably are). Is it difficult to change the plugs on these trucks? Anything else I should think about changing soon? He recently changed the transmission filter, fuel filter and alternator.
What brand plugs and wires do you guys recommend?
The air filter is a little dirty. I priced out a K&N/other brands of the Cold Air Intake systems and my eyes just about jumped out of my head! $150+ for a filter, some tubing, and a "heat shield"? I dont think so. I just removed the air snorkle (I belive this is refered to as the "gotts mod"). And now Im looking to remove the air silencer or replace the whole section with some 3" pvc piping instead of buying one of those kits. I will be buying a K&N filter soon also.

Ahh don't know much about the removal process but I'd imagine it's not to bad unlike the 04-07 plugs. Id recommened autolite or motorcraft plugs. As for an air filter I would do Fram

Compared to a lot of other things that need replacing on a vehicle, spark plugs aren't really too hard. For my '01, the air filter had to be taken off so the plugs could be reached, but that was about it. Although the two rear spark plugs are a b**ch to get at. I recommend Bosch spark plugs, and even though K&N filters are more expensive, they increase your horsepower and pay for themselves every time you can just wash it off instead of buying another filter. Before I got my truck, I don't think the plugs were ever changed, and it had about 180k on it...
