Default Sync Video and NAV Bypass

I went a car audio shop today and asked them about installing the Sync Bypass that allows you to control the DVD player and enable all the NAV functions while the vehicle is in motion rather than only in park. I was speaking directly to the manager of the shop who showed me the Sync Bypass wiring harness and told me about how it's just a basic plug and play install. He then quoted me at a price for the wiring harness at $429 with $75 install fee. I think he saw the disgust on my face, so he offered it to me $400 total if I was able to pay cash. Maybe it's just me, but either way, that sounds a little outrageous. I'm not a huge car audio guy, so I'm not really up with all the pricing and equipment. I wanted to tell the guy to go pound salt, but I did the political thing and told him I'd think about it. Does anyone out there have any thoughts or further knowledge on this that might be able to share an experience/opinion on it?

There is a product called sync picklock or similar that does exactly what you discribe. It retails for about $239 on thier website. youll have to google search it. the $75 would be a good labor rate, as there is quite a bit to getting behind the radio to put the harness on. check youtube, there are some videos on how to install the sync pic lock in a f150. hope that helps.

Don't pay $75 for install, the video and printed instructions make it very simple. Depending on your abilities, you could get it taken apart and back together in less than 2 hours.

Ever switch to media and notice the CD button also says DVD? Without messing with the system, you can watch DVDs while your truck is stopped and listen only while it is in motion.

Yes, with the stock NAV and in park. You need a lockpick or some other type of bypass device to play in motion.

I am interested as well, do they make them for the 2012 nav yet? Does it change anything else around in options other than allow a few features that are disabled when driving?
