[solved] SYNC won't play from USB memory stick.
I copied some of my MP3s to a memory stick and stuck it in the USB port on the dash. The sync said "cannot play copyrighted material" or some such nonsense.
Anyone know what I did wrong ? Can you not play MP3s from a memory stick ?
Thanks, Bean

Try reformatting your USB to a FAT32 instead of NTFS and then put your music on the USB and see if that makes a difference. I have never heard of SYNC having that capability to decipher what is copy righted and not. QUESTION'S is; do you have a PC or MAC? Where on your comp did you get your music to put on your USB? was it from and iTunes folder to the USB stick or was it a windows folder with MP3's?

Am about to buy an F150 and would like to know what exactly is displayed when a thumb drive is inserted. Is there a folder breakdown or does it just play all songs together? I have 4 folders set up.

If Sync is working properly you can tell it to play an artist/album. My sync is about 50/50 on that. You can also use the dash controls to toggle through play artist, or play album. You then go to the artist/album you want to play. I usually do it this way. My flash drive folder structure is artist then album name(s) within the artist folder.

I just tried it again it says "This device does not support playing protected music through the sync system."
If I say "Play" it says "The current track is not playable."
I've tried several different memory sticks and they all do the same thing.
Any ideas ?

Little more than a year ago Apple started opening the DRM encryption on the files you bought from them. The problem was that people would download music (buy it) and then couldn't transfer it to non-Apple devices because the DRM would prevent it from being played.
You have three options for music that was previously downloaded with DRM enabled.
1) Re-format the data (do a Google search) into a different (.wav) format.
2) Not sync that particular data to your thumb drive.
3) Re-purchase the music.
If I recall, the DRM was enabled from Apple for roughly a year before they reversed it due to new laws. Wish I had better news for you but basically you're locked out of your own files because you're using a device that can't authenticate that you purchased the file.

IS the CD player capable of playing MP3 files?
Curious, of those files were on your phone, and plugged into the USB port if they would play. I have an unknown number of songs on my phone that I have played via bluetooth and the USB connection with no issues. But I have not yet tried a thumbdrive.

My USB stick which worked 10min before in my 2011 F250 did not want to play. same copywrite message. F250 does not have NAV, F150 does. I removed the USB stick, pressed media on dash and inserted teh USB stick, pressed play twice and it started working. Now it works without issue.
