1986 F150 Duel Tank Problems
I bought a 1986 Ford F150 4x4 5.8L with 3 speed Auto Tranny. It has the Duel tanks...
I have both tanks, but the front one was removed, due to unknown problem. There is no tank selector valve of any kind(guessing someone removed it), and someone has rigged in an electric fuel pump on the frame rail so only rear tank is working.
I am wanting to put a front tank back in it, not sure what selector valve, or proper fuel pump I am needing for this particular truck. I see a small white plug on the frame rail that is not plugged into anything. Since someone has removed the original fuel selector valve(or the duel function reservoir) I'm not sure what I need. The tank selector switch is located next to the heater selection(right side). It seems to read tank levels ok.
Can anyone help with information with this particular problem?

There were several tank switching systems and pumps used depending on engine size, EFI or carb etc.
On my EFI 5.0, I replaced the troublesome non electric switch / reservoir system with an aftermarket electric switching valve.

You may have had a similar electric pump, probably the 3 port version for a carb engine. EFI uses the 6 port version.
Can you get a photo of the connector etc?

I looked at the photo you attached... I don't have anything like that, nor as many fuel lines... One from rear tank, and one from front tank... And one to carb on engine. Those the only lines...

What are the colors of the 2 wires under the wire loom at that connector?
If they are Brown/white and black then that is the connector for the tank switch.
In your photo is that a rubber fuel line clamped onto the blue nylon fuel line? I can't quite make it out.
If so that is where the PO cut out the selector valve.
Yes my EFI engine has the smaller diameter fuel return lines which your truck will not have.
