Removing black plastic rear bumper piece
Anyone know how to remove the black plastic rear bumper piece? How much trouble is it to do?
Thanks for any help.

I did it on an '00 Lariat to powdercoat the chrome bumpers black and the clips that hold the plastic on didn't hold as snug the second time around so I ordered new plastic from the dealer. The clips were a one-shot deal pretty much.

How the powdercoat hold up? Sorry about stealing the thread.

You can retract the barbs (for lack of a better term) that hold the pad in place with (say) pliers from beneath the bumper. Push-up as you slightly compress the barbs with the pliers.
Takes some time, but the pad can be removed (and re-used) without damage.

I recently took mine off in order to have my bumpers powdercoated..... Found it a lot easier to just remove the entire bumper, then flip it over onto your tailgate.... That way, the "barbs" are right there and you can take your time without fear of damage

I always work on a piece of carpet. Don't wanna scratch the chrome or plastic, plus I hate having tools and hardware roll away.
