Default 2009+ bed dimensions vs. 2004-2008

OKay guys,

New member, new F150 in transit to dealer. Truck should land any day, a 2011 Screw 5.0L 4 x 4 w/ 5.5 bed. Are the bed dimensions the same for 2009+ as 2008 and prior, more specifically will a cap from a 2008 or prior fit the 2009-2011? I read some reviews when the 2009 came out and know the frames and cabs of the Screws were stretched 6 inches, but does anyone know for sure if the bed dimensions are changed and are the caps interchangeable? I found a cap that a guy has off a 2008 F150 with a 5.5 bed and wondering if it will fit.

Looking forward to getting the new truck, it will be the family "car" to replace a 2007 Toyota Sequoia. We found a truck suited us better than a SUV, and the wife has never liked the pillowy ride of the Sequoia and **** poor brakes. The toyota has been reliable, but looking forward to getting another F150. The last ford truck I had was a 1992 F150 which I bought new and sold in 2004.

Will post new truck pics when we get it, hopefully withing the next week or so.

Thanks

I know bed rugs fit all 04+ so my guess would be that the bed dimensions are the same. But don't take my word on that!

Default A truck cap from 2008 or earlier will not fit a 2009.

The 2009 F150 body style has a one inch higher roof. Also, the flat lip on the top of the tailgate, for aerodynamics, made the truck bed longer and changed the raduises of the rear corners.

I know this because I had to re-tool a truck cap to get it to fit the later 2009 model F150.

Thanks for the info Bondo. I will be sure to purchase a cap manufactured to fit the 2009+ trucks. I plan to wait till I own the truck, but stumbled upon a used one for sale for a decent price. Will investigate further and be sure the cap fits before laying down any coin. The owner of the cap states it fits 2008+, but I need to fine out exactly what year truck it came off of.

the tailgate lip is wider on the 09+ trucks. So a 04-08 cap will not fit, it would be too short. A one-piece fiberglass tonneau would be too short as well.

However, most vinyl tonneaus would fit and certain hard covers like the Bakflip will fit from all years 04-11.

It would appear based on what everyone else has said that the EXTERIOR dimensions of the bed are different. However the INTERIOR dimensions are the same. So as already said, the BedRug fits 04-11 same part#. Tonneau covers such as the BackFlip, Peragon, Solid Fold, etc that do not encapsulate the entire outer dimensions of the bed, are also interchangable from 04-11. However, solid fiberglass tonneaus that wrap the bed and caps certainly appear to be different part#s.

Since this is a similar thread to my question...

even though the outside bed rail dimensions are the different, are the inside bed rail dimensions different as well?
Will a top-mount tonneau cover meant for an 09-10 fit an 04-08 of the same bed length?
If the dimensions work out, does the tailgate fit work, and will the underside mounting work as well!

I know, lots of questions, but my local TSC has one on clearance for an 09-10 and mine is an 06.

thanks!

Same....
Anyone?

I'm looking at a 04-08 Extang Solid-Fold for my 2011.

Extang lists different numbers.. ?

Will this fit? Will it leak?

Hi Bondo, how did you end up "re-tooling" the truck cap. I have the same problem. I have a 2004-2008 Leer Topper I bought used on craigslist at a good price. I have a 2014 Ford XLT 6.5 in bed. The fit is off by about an inch. I was thinking about cutting back the bed plastic bed rail caps and may get a better fit that way.
