Anyone know if the OEM Ford locking gas cap has any kind of seal? Or does it just cover hole?

Not sure but I just bought an OEM locking gas cap off of Ebay yesterday for $27 shipped. I can let you know once I get it.

The one I got from ford for my 2010 just covers the hole and has no type of seal or gasket.

I bought an OEM locking gas cap off of Ebay after I got my truck. It does'nt seal, just sits in the hole and locks. Smaller than a regular gas cap would be, but it beats nothing covering the hole. It was $26 shipped.

Yep, no seal it just sets in there and is flush. It looks pretty cool on there all flush. I guess I'm not used to it looking that way.

Any reason why a locking gas cap would need a seal.?? The "Easy-fill" system already has a foolproof seal..?? A sealing gas cap would be duplicating that at significant expense with no visible gain..??

No real need. Although redundancy would not be a bad thing. Don't think a seal would add much to cost. There are plenty of locking caps that seal in same price range.
And if it is foolproof why does the owners manual cover what to try when the light comes on to clear it?

The owners manual will tell you to check a regular gas cap too in the same situation.

its more of a "plug" with a lock on it.....not really a cap.

I bought one out of peace of mind that someone wouldn't try to defeat the "capless" system and try to tamper with my gas.
