how hard is it to change the rear main seal on my truck? 1989 f150 5.0 5speed 4x4. would i need more than 1 person?

Take the tranny out. Everybody told me to pull the engine and found out it was a 200% complete waste of time. Just pull the tranny out and flywheel. It's right there slapping you in the face. 10x easier of you have it body lifted as well.

Yup, pull the tranny and flywheel, out with the old seal and in with the new. Practically magic! And easier then pulling the motor too.

PS Don't forget to put sealer around your new seal or oil will leak around it like crazy Not that anybody ever would.

Some would say pulling the motor is easier, less time on your back with dirt falling in your eyes.

can it be done with 1 person without a tranny jack? my tranny looks pretty hefty. it's bigger than me haha

It would be a lot easier with a tranny jack but I suppose you can do it without one. Just takes some muscle.

that, i don't have. i weight about 150lbs at 5'11". actually, now that i think about it, i think we have an adapter for our car jack that lets us lift trannys at my brother inlaws house.

this is my next project as soon as i get my truck back from paint!

i can't imagine it would be. i'm picturing it being a bear of a project.. i'm thinking i'm going to do this the 2 days my truck is going to be sitting at home not moving while the paint is finishing curing.

which of these would you go with? they're most made out of different material. but i'm thinking the silicon seal at the bottom.
