Default What cam should i run

Hey guys,
I am currently bringing my 1993 Flareside back to life. I need help choosing a cam. The truck will have a Treperformance 306 short block with AFR 165 heads and an rpm air gap intake. Sitting on top of that is a Holley terminator fuel injection system. The trans is original AOD but fully rebuilt with a constant pressure valve body. The truck will be somewhat of a pre runner set up (Fiberglass 4" bulge fenders) Four inches of life up front and new leaf springs in the back(not sure how much lift they gave yet). The rear end will have gears in the 4.86 range. This truck will see some abuse, maybe a few times in the quarter just for fun, a bit of two wheel off road fun, but it will also be a daily driver. sitting on 35's. Im trying to find a cam that will be mean on the streets, sounds great, and still handle daily driving. i just recently talked to a rebuilder that said he will never put any cam in a 5.0 besides a trick flow cam, but im not completely sold. Let me hear what you guys have to say.

Damn I can see it now this truck will rip through the mud, with the 8.8 rear I assume it has and those gears, you'll have no problem to have a little fun that 306 is gonna rev like a monster, so I would put a mild anderson cam in it, you'll be able to pass emissions easier too, my buddy had your block with that cam In his mustang and it was impressive.

Since you're doing so many mods are you looking for a cam that will work with the stock computer? Do you plan on having it tuned?

Haha wadez17 that's the plan!! And I'll look into those cams. They are a product of ford racing aren't they?

And crownman they terminator fuel injection system runs from it's own ecu and actual tunes itself. That's one of the main reasons I bought it! Great product. There's no need to ever hook it up to a laptop to tune it

Yeah they're made from ford Motorsport, you got a ford might as well use their products, and your using fuel injections that blocks gonna make a lot of power while still having a decent 10-12 mpg haha

Lol hopefully a little more than that but when you're making lots of horsepower you can't be too picky lol

hey Guys,
on the topic of cams... I put a 96 302 in a 92 f150 and I think I am having injector issues because the ecu is not programmed for the 96 cam. I am wondering if the 92 cam will fit and work with the 1996 block and thus work with the 92 ecu? They are two different cam's where the 96 is HO. Any help on this would be great!

92 has speed density, so the computer will work just as well with either cam, apparently. You changed your firing order to the 351 (96 302) configuration ? And did you route the wires exactly according to Ford's recommendation to avoid crossfire ?
