Default 94-96 5.0 cam upgrade

I'm rebuilding my 96 5.0, 2wd, auto trans..My stock cam looks good, but i'm having a hard time reusing it with everything else being new. Does anyone have the the same unit and running a Comp Cams 35-512-8? How do you like it? It is .030 over, stock heads, stock exhaust and 3.55 gears.

I have this camshaft. It works good for me. Especially out on the highway. I have not had a chance to tow with it yet, however.

One thing to remember when you put in an aftermarket cam. The base circle is smaller than it is on the stock roller cam. So you will need either longer pushrods or adjustable rockers to compensate. If it's just together without one of those two things being changed the valve train will be very noisy. And you should be ok with the valve springs since you're staying under a .500 lift with that cam.

I just went through this with my 95 5.0.

The valve springs will need to be upgraded due to the cam needing higher seat pressure, higher ramp rates, etc. The stock springs aren't all that great for anything other than the stock cam.

I completely spaced out on the higher seat pressure, you're right. He'll need this trickflow kit that has the springs that will clear the stock heads so they won't need machining.

Or he can do like I did and get the recommended 942-16 Comp Cam springs. They fit the stock head as well and can be found for roughly $50-$70.
